Pelvic health, exercise & performance

Welcome

Welcome to my website. Here you will find information about the services I offer and how to book an appointment. You will also find my blog, where I share topics I am passionate about. I hope you find it informative, inspiring, and a useful place to explore women’s health, pelvic health, exercise, and physical activity.

I am a registered naprapath and Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Pelvic Health, with a particular interest in supporting women to feel confident and capable in their bodies.

My aim is to help women stay active and return to sport, exercise, and physical activity, including during the postpartum period. I also want to support women diagnosed with pelvic floor disorders in overcoming fear of movement and rebuilding confidence in physical activity.

Rather than seeing exercise as something to fear or avoid, I hope to provide knowledge, guidance, and practical strategies that help women discover the many benefits that movement and exercise can offer throughout different stages of life.

My goal is simple: to help more women move with confidence, stay active, and enjoy the benefits of exercise.

About Mary-Lou

Background

Pelvic health, exercise, and performance are closely connected, yet often discussed separately. Through this blog, I want to explore how pelvic health influences movement, rehabilitation, and athletic performance across the lifespan.

My name is Mary-Lou, and exercise and sport have been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I was born in Sweden and raised in Seattle, USA, before moving back to Sweden in 1985. English is my native language, and therefore this blog will be written in English.

I have always been active and participated in several sports including track and field, swimming, volleyball, and basketball. After returning to Sweden, basketball became my main sport and also helped me relearn Swedish — proof that sport can play an important role in integration.

Basketball eventually took me to a semi-elite level, but also brought injuries, including recurrent ankle sprains and meniscal injuries. At the age of 19, I decided to retire from competitive sport and instead found enjoyment in strength training and gym-based exercise.

My experiences with injuries and rehabilitation sparked a growing interest in the human body and movement. I began studying at the Naprapathic School in Stockholm, completing a four-year full-time education followed by a one-year postgraduate internship. I graduated in 1996 and became a certified naprapath (leg. naprapat) in 1998.

i am currently clinically active at Hela Kvinnans Klinik, located at Södermalm.
